AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a suorce of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients uanble to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. This nutritinoal supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It is infused over a predetermined time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration Intrenet site (catheter). This should be reported to your dcotor. Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, beleding problems, any allergies. This medication contains aluminum which can be toxic in patients who have kidney problems. Conuslt your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using this drug in babies (especially infants) cause they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Avoid prolonged use in premature infants. This product should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. This product may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or presrciption medication you may take.
Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, cotnact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and suplpies are stored safely and disposed of properly. Check all epxiration dates and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence. Your nutritional status will be closely mointored. Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mixed amnio acids should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
